Step 6: Anticipate challenges

There’s a universal truth: ‘Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.’ Consequently, you need to prepare for all the things that could go wrong and that would stop you achieving your well-formed outcome.

Below are some examples of things you can expect to go awry as you tread a path towards your result. All have a basis in harsh personal experience!

• How will you cope if you or the prospect is late, and instead of having 45 minutes for the ‘pitch’ or meeting you have just 20?

• What will you do if your iPad or other technology doesn’t work and your beautiful PowerPoint presentation won’t load?

• How will you recover if you make some social gaffe – for example, forget someone’s name or provide a buffet with food that someone can’t eat for dietary or religious reasons?
